Author & Performer
Jake’s books reflect his interest in travel, place, music, spirituality, and the natural environment. They also relate deeply soulful encounters with other human beings, many of whom are marginalized or exist on the fringes of society. His work engages the reader in self-reflection on many levels. It has a jazzy flow, due to his Beat and Post-Beat influences and teachers, and seeks to bring to light many thoughts, ideas, and emotions that are hidden below the surface.
He has been fortunate to have recorded and performed with a number of wonderful musicians, including the renowned jazz pianist, Eddie Higgins. Their jazz and poetry album, Miami Session, is available for purchase on this website. He has also recorded songs or done performances with DJ Astro, composer Nicolas Stirling, pianist Matthew Tavis Johnson, musician Wayo Hogan, The Beat Trio, jazz singer Jenna Mammina, and classical Spanish guitarist Jacqueline Henry-Ross.
Jake has been a featured poet and performer at a number of culturally relevant venues throughout the United States, including: The Bush Auditorium at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida; The New College Theater in San Francisco, California; The Poet’s Loft in Hot Springs, Arkansas; The Stony Point Center in New York; The Civic Media Center in Gainesville, Florida; Art House Gallery and Cultural Center in Berkeley, California; The Rialto in Portland, Oregon; The Henry Miller Library in Big Sur, California; and at Manson’s Community Hall on Cortes Island, British Columbia, Canada.
One of the goals of these performances is to help raise money for various charities, including those who work with homeless people, abused women, and at-risk youth.
Please contact Jake if you would like him to do a reading or performance at your next event.
